Our client, the Winnipeg Housing Rehabilitation Corporation, is seeking a Controller to assist the management of all accounting and financial functions of WHRC to ensure the viability of the organization, efficient management of the projects, and detailed monitoring of all the corporations’ operations.

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Controller is responsible for the effective and efficient execution of daily operations of the accounting department, including training and supervising of the accounting staff. The Controller is also responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements, and the preparation of the year-end audit files and the annual operating budgets in consultation with the Director, Finance and other members of the Leadership Team.


5 years’ experience in a similar role
Must possess strong financial experience

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Financial Reporting / Accounting
Ensure the monthly and annual financial statements are prepared in a timely manner
Analyze the monthly and annual financial statements to provide reports and recommendations to management and the Board of Directors
Audit files to be prepared for efficient year end audits
Ensure that the general ledger is maintained
Train and supervise 3 accounting staff
Monitor and assist and manager the collection of the receivables process
Work collaboratively with the Director, Development and Construction and the Development department for progress funding claim processing
Budgeting / Internal Controls / Risk Management
Monitor and implement accounting controls and accounting policy compliance
Prepare annual operating budgets for all the projects, in consultation with the Director, Finance and members of the Leadership Team (Executive Director, Director, Housing Services, Director, Building Services and Director, Development and Construction)
Develop and maintain all preventative and corrective controls over cash and other assets of the corporation
Prepare and maintain policies and procedures to prevent losses
Ensure that adequate insurance exists for all forms of loss
Finance and Cash Management
With the Director, Finance, ensure that all financial arrangements are in place and appropriately monitored
Assist with unionized staff payroll
Assist Director, Finance with coordinating computerized systems of the organization
Maintain knowledge of market conditions and various government issues
